How to make money fast: what is realistic and what is a scam

On this page · 8
When you need money here and now, it is tempting to believe offers to “earn today”. The reality is simple: you can make money fast, but only in a few ways, and almost all of them rely on what you already have – things, skills or time.
This part of the guide covers what is realistic in a day, a week and a month, and why fast and easy online earnings are most often scammers' bait.
In short
- Within a few days it is only realistic to sell things or offer a service you already know how to do.
- Within a week – temporary work, first orders, first lessons.
- “Fast earnings without effort” is the most common sign of a scam.
What is realistic in a day, a week and a month
| Time | Realistic ways |
|---|---|
| 1–3 days | Selling things you no longer need, offering help to people you know (moving, computers, cleaning, childcare) |
| 1 week | Temporary or seasonal work, food courier work through apps such as Wolt, first lessons or consultations |
| 2–4 weeks | First freelance orders, regular students, extra hours at work |
| 1–3 months | Affiliate marketing, content, digital products – slower but growing ways |
The fastest ways to make money
Sell what you no longer need
Electronics, clothes, furniture and sports equipment sell fastest. To sell within a day or two, set the price slightly below the market, take photos in daylight and reply to messages straight away. Income from selling your own used things is not taxed as long as it does not exceed 2 500 EUR per year.
Offer a service to people around you
In local Facebook groups and among people you know there is always demand for help: with moving, fixing a computer, photos, lessons, pet care. It is not online work, but the internet helps you find a client within a few hours.
Temporary work
Seasonal jobs, event staffing, courier work – they pay quickly, often weekly. It is not a long-term strategy, but a reliable way to cover a short-term lack of money.
How to make money fast online
The internet speeds up not the earning itself but the search for a client or a buyer. The fastest ways online:
- Classified ad portals and social media marketplaces – things sell within a few days if the price is right.
- Local community groups – here people look for help with moving, repairs, childcare or lessons.
- Freelance platforms – short orders (texts, translations, photo editing) can come within a week, but the first order without reviews is the hardest.
- People you know – a message to friends saying “I'm looking for extra work, I can do X” often works faster than any platform.
How to make money easily: why it is a misleading question
When looking for how to make money easily, it is important to separate “easy” from “simple”. Simple means selling things, surveys, simple tasks: no knowledge is needed, but the reward is small too. There is no such thing as easy and at the same time big money – where it is promised, there is almost always a risk or a scam behind it.
A better question: what comes easily to me but is hard for others? That is exactly what people pay for most willingly – and it is the fastest route to money that does not run out after one week.
Why “fast online earnings” are often a scam
“Fast earnings” and “easy online earnings” are among the most popular searches, so scammers exploit them very well. The Bank of Lithuania (LB) stresses that illegal offers can often be recognised by the fact that they offer fast, unrealistically high earnings and no risk.
The most common schemes
- “Tasks for money” – a few euros are paid for the first tasks, and later you are asked to “deposit” money to unlock a bigger reward.
- “An investment with a guaranteed return” – cryptocurrencies or platforms promising income that grows every day.
- “Transfer money for a percentage” – other people's money is moved through your account. This is money laundering, for which the account holder is liable.
- “A paid starter pack” – training or a licence without which you supposedly cannot start working.
If you have already transferred money or handed over your details, LB advises you to break off contact immediately, contact your bank and report it to the police.
Real cases from police reports
This is what “fast earnings” look like in the police daily incident reports:
- Tauragė, October 2026. A man (born 2001) contacted a person through an app about a “deposit multiplying” service, transferred 360 € in one night and did not receive the agreed profit.
- Kaunas, September 2026. A man (born 1959) filled in an online ad about investment services. A stranger called him, persuaded him to invest in an online platform and swindled him out of 47 730 €.
- Alytus, September 2026. A woman (born 1984) lost 35 674 € after the same kind of ad and phone call.
- Pakruojis district, September 2026. A woman (born 1968) lost 20 000 € in the same way.
The scenario repeats itself: the person leaves their own contact details in an ad about earnings or investing, and then a “consultant” calls them. Next comes a fake platform where the “profit” grows only on the screen.
If you have already transferred money – first call your bank, then report it to the police via epolicija.lt or by phone on 112.
From fast earnings to regular ones
Fast ways solve today's problem but do not create income for tomorrow. Once the urgent need has passed, it is worth starting one slower way that will grow: affiliate marketing, a service with regular clients or content. Then the next time you need money, you will not have to start from scratch.
Frequently asked questions
How can I make money fast, in a day?
The most realistic option is to sell something you no longer need or to offer a service to people you know or in a local group. Online promises of earning in a day without work are a scam.
Do easy online earnings exist?
Easy – no, simple – yes. Selling things or surveys are simple but bring little. Larger income always requires time or skills.
How can I make money fast online without investment?
Sell things and offer a service you know how to do. If an offer requires you to pay to get started – it is not earning.
